While several countries, and arguably our whole society, on the verge of collapse seems the Russian military continues to invest in the future. Photographer Sergey Kozmin documents the next Russian Elite Troups with a photo series on his website:

The Moscow Girls’ Cadet Boarding School is one of the new elite military academies in Russia. While most kids hate school for boring maths or history, the classes here include stripping down an AK-47 Kalashnikov rifle. And the girls can do it in the time it takes most kids to send an SMS. With a curriculum that includes drill, arms, first aid and federal law, one might expect it to turn into little Amazons. But femininity is also highly valued, so the evenings are reserved for such activities as sewing, ballet and compulsory choir practice. There are no mini-skirts and swear words, no smoking and drinking, and no hanging about unattended about unattended. Mobile phones are also banned except for a few minutes a day to talk with parents. A traditional Russian Winter Ball gives the girls a rare chance to meet the opposite sex, in this case from a nearby all-male boarding school boarding school called Moscow Cossacks Cadet Corps – another military-style academy founded during the Putin years.

Special about this three man chess game is that none of the rules of traditional chess need to be sacrificed just for the sake of being able to play a game with your whole, nerdy friend circle.

Except that the 3 Man Chess Game becomes slightly more difficult:

The complexities of the third player are infinite. Your threatened piece may be allowed to maintain occupancy as your position is beneficial to the threatening player. But how long can it last? This scenario may exist all over the board. There are multiple trust and doubt situations between all players. An unexpected move might well result in a cascading massacre. Defense is crucial since a diagonal move through the center, or a horizontal move around the center can sneak up behind you. A player can be checkmated by a combination of both other players or ultimately one player can checkmate both other players at the same time.

George Dawe was an English portrait artist who painted 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

I’m using digital copies of these paintings as a basis for my own work which involves incorporating my friends, family and even some celebrities into the paintings using photoshop.

This one does not only appeal to geeks. If it features Morgan Freeman it has to be good and multi-cultural. Also for the regular plebs.

Geeks will proudly announce every new achievement and often excel through fail. Fail drives geeks to learn more and do better next time make that darn thing work. No matter whether it is something only they and their counterparts understands or like. Main aim: to make it work, just because they can.

This video of two disk drives to the tune of the Imperial March is probably one of these achievements hardly anyone else than a geek could appreciate but we are geeks here and don’t forget that at night geeks rule the world.

Basically it’s like becoming interested in a Vertu phone and not knowing whether or not to buy one. Not buy one because the phone really can’t do anything more than just make phone calls and text. Buy one because once you’ve paid for that design wonder your budget will probably not allow you to do anything than making calls and text with your phone anymore.

It all seems simple but once you add a dash of geek nostalgia to the mix, it becomes a thin line to walk. The line between splashing the cash and just continue to dream. Desiring or giving in to your desire.

Sometimes you have to be fast though, especially if there will only be 78 pieces of the item you want. And it comes with Space Invaders nostalgia.

Purrty... even better if it would allow you to play Space Invaders!

Let the price of a whopping $10,000 per watch not scare you. It’s almost exactly the same as the Vertu phone: you can not play Space Invaders with this watch. Nevertheless it shouts Buy Me at anyone who loves geekery. So much even that there’s actually 156 watches available. Or two sets of 78 because Romain Jerome actually created two different watches.

The same but different. Just as limited at 78 pieces only.

Now the biggest problem with these awesome Space Invaders watches is that we are only guessing the price. It could be $10,000 each but just as well $15,000.

Let’s not fret that detail and just queue to get one. Unless of course you will lament the lack of Bluetooth and thus the inability to play Space Invaders against your spoiled which might have gotten your second purchase.

Components which spread most electromagnetic interference (AC, power transformers, chokes) are placed in closed compartments further away from audio lines. The main sound board rises on hinges to enable dusting electronics without the need to disconnect anything. The amplifier is made from stainless steel and aluminum.
